THE POLYMER WONDERLAND, 2018

photo series of ephemeral, environmental installations, exhibited in a group-show at Fotoforum Dresden in 2020.

The project emerged in December 2018, when plastic bags had just been banned from supermarkets in New Zealand - a country that is taking exceptional care in protecting its bio system. By ephemerally arranging the entirely unnatural material of plastic in the stunning environmental experience of the country’s national parks, artificial aesthetics are injected into the aesthetic of latent intoxicated nature. Besides reflecting on experiencing the Natural Beauty opposed to the Art Beauty, the series deals with the inevitable influence of plastic and nature on ordinary aesthetics and the discourse of the Aesthetic History. - How used did we become to being surrounded by plastic ? How much did this material already become part of our environmental experience?

The photographs were taken at Cape Reinga, Tongariro National Park - Mt Ruapehu , Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland Park and Oakura, New Zealand. Special thanks to Sophia Rosa Mara Buck. Prints from the series are available in an edition of 20, 20x15cm.
