WHERE SOMETHING IS, WAS, OR IS TO BE, 2022

installation for the annual exhibition Class Philipsz at HfBK Dresden, July 15-17, 2022

Seemingly frozen like a photograph, the site-specific installation re-stages a certain moment in time and thereby questions wether two states of the room can exist simultaneously - studio and exhibition space are oscillating. In their combination, the different works further deal with the question wether time continues in the exhibition or is put on hold by the art work.

Frames enable aesthetic contemplation, but what happens when the image is falling out of its frame? The ‘image’ captures a shadow, giving the illusion of another point in time, when the sun shines inside the studio during late summer evenings.

The curtain as an ordinary, functional object becomes useless, as studio as well as exhibition spaces are oriented against direct sunlight. Thus, it leads the view outside into a vivid landscape painting and the passage of time in the garden, which is framed by the window and confronts the illusion of a seeming stillstand inside the room.
